Seven common mistakes of newbies.
Some new bloggers start blogging without having proper knowledge of blogging because of which finally they end up by everything so a piece of advice for those who are thinking about to start a blog, please first learn everything before implementing anything. I have made a list of the seven common mistakes done by bloggers (I have noticed some of these mistakes by pro-bloggers too, but sorry can’t name them here.)
Common Mistakes
- More Tag: All of the WordPress users are aware of the More (<more>) tag to create a read more option on the home page. Almost every blogger uses this to create a read more or continue reading option, but it is not at good for SEO. The more tag creates a # tag at the end of the URL and creates a duplicate of the original post (remember Google hates spams and duplicate content. I don’t think there is any need to explain this anymore as most of the bloggers are aware of how duplicate content can lead to close the blog.
- Grammar: Most of the new bloggers click on “Publish” button without even checking what they have written in the content. They proof-read the article at least once. Although it will help them only. As I told you before also that nobody is perfect so while writing the posts even bloggers do some grammatical mistakes, which should be edited to make a good blog as if there would be mistakes, then I don’t think someone would like to read a post full of mistakes. Check out a list of tools to improve grammar.
- Niche: I told you about the importance of niche in the post “What did I learn from blogging” too. Most of bloggers start a Tech blog, but forgets that they have to write or share content on technology only and starts sharing everything what they like. If you will do so you will lose your readers. There are many importance of niche I would soon write a detailed post on it. Moreover, if you will stay on your niche, then the chance of getting a sponsor of similar niche increases.
- Design: The design of theme matters a lot. You should choose a simple and reliable design based on your niche. The theme should be light weighted with some good features so you don’t need to add more plug-ins.
- Less plug-ins: remember plug-ins slow down the blog speed of loading so only upload a plug-in which you find important.
- Advertising: Most of the new bloggers start doing advertising on their blogs since the day one of their blog, which is not good at all. I have seen some blogs wrapped with Adsense and Adbrite code all-over. This would make the readers that you don’t care about them, you just want money nothing else.
- Spamming: Some bloggers don’t understand the real meaning of sharing. Sharing means just to share the content once not to post it here, there, everywhere. This would make the Google feel that you are spamming so they may block you.
These were the top seven mistakes that every new blogger does, even I did some of them. You can check the mistakes what I did too.

I agree with all your points. When I started with blogging , I made the mistake of not having particular niche and it really effected number of subscribers for my blog.

All valid points. I made a mistake of adding rss counter to the home page but learned later that it doesn’t look so cool with few readers at the initial stage. Nice post.

I find it hard not to add more plug-ins
They are just so beautiful and useful. I guess we just have to take the middle ground and keep it balanced.

I’m not sure with the MORE tag, I read in a book that MORE tag must be used in the homepage, so that the article doesnt get a duplicate between the home page and the single page.

Bro I too read in a ebook called “SEO Bible” that using # will create a duplicate URL.
