Which platform to choose for blogging?

There are many blogging platforms available on World Wide Web, but for a newbie it is very difficult to choose a platform to blog which suits it’s him/her. We should choose blogging platform very carefully because hosting and blog platform matters a lot in SEO and traffic. Today I’m going to tell about top three blog platforms.

Blogging Platforms

  1. WordPress – When we talk about pro-blogging, then WordPress is the best for that. It is said to be SEO optimized by default and the best thing about it is that we can carry out various hacks and tricks on it to make a blog more user-friendly. Another thing about WordPress is that a huge amount of plug-ins and themes available for it. Plug-ins are PHP based (mainly) tools which extend and expand the functionality of WordPress. You can check list of top ten WordPress plug-ins here. If you want to do pro-blogging and want to make a good amount of money from it, then I will suggest you that to go for WordPress.
  2. Blogger – There are some points were the WordPress lacks and blogger covers them. It is a free blogging tool from Google, if you are completely new to blogging, best advice is to create a free account on it, grab free blog and start blogging because it is owned by Google so getting on the search engines seem to be easier and hosting is also always free even if you own a custom domain. Later on if you ever plan to shift to WordPress from Blogger we can help you out for free.
  3. Movable Type -  Movable Type is a weblog publishing system developed by the company Six Apart. It was publicly announced on 3 September 2001, and version 1.0 was publicly released on 8 October 2001. On 12 December 2007, Movable Type was relicensed as free software under the GNU General Public License. (According to Wikipedia)

Which one to choose for blogging?

It depends upon the blog you want, for e.g, if you own a company and want to start a business blog, then I will suggest you that to go for WordPress. I’m suggesting you WordPress for your business because it is simple to use blog platform which can be easily converted into a cool CMS. (WordPress was awarded the Overall Best Open Source CMS Awards in the 2009 Open Source CMS Awards.)

If you want a start a simple blog on any niche for e.g, Technology, then go for Blogger because it is free, speedy and has a lot of cool features like Widget Bars, unlimited image uploading and a lot more! Later if you want to move to WordPress from blogger without loosing traffic, back links and Google PR it can be done using simple 301 page redirection (hire me .. I too can do that!!)

If you are not satisfied with Blogger and WordPress, give a try to Movable Type. :)
